Many thanks to everyone who attended my PR workshop for start-ups in IADT on Wednesday morning with thanks to MediaCube and the Digital Media Forum. Many of you have gotten in touch since with feedback so thanks so much for that. I always find it difficult to gauge how successful these things are on the day, so feedback is crucial and very much appreciated.
The idea behind the presentation was to provide start-ups with an idea of where to start their PR activity, especially if initial budgets don’t really stretch to hiring a team of consultants. As I explained to attendees, I would obviously recommend you hire a professional - but taking into account the usual extortionate hourly charge for professional PR services, there are steps you can take yourself to get your website/company ‘PR ready’.
As you’ll see from the slides (ashamedly lacking in razzmatazz!), getting as much info about yourself onto your website is a great start and crucial to journalists who’ll want all the information they can get from your site. In Thursday’s workshop I mentioned www.ifoods.tv as a fantastic example of a website where the media can get all the background their hearts desire!
You can also cut the hours your consultant will spend on your PR plan and therefore save money by knowing exactly who you want to talk to, how you want to reach them, and what your message is.
