Uniper in Germany

Providing secure power for the energy transition

Across Germany, we own and operate power plants with a total installed capacity of about 10.5 GW. As the proportion of intermittent wind and solar expands nationwide, our hydro and fossil-fueled power stations provide reliable and flexible capacity that can balance supply and demand to maintain grid stability.

Most of our thermal plants use hard coal or natural gas as fuel. Uniper also owns more than 100 hydroelectric power plants in Germany. They are organised in the river groups Isar, Lech, and Rhine-Main-Danube (RMD), as well as a group of pumped storage plants.

Lech hydropower group

The Lech power plant group comprises 22 run-of-river plants along the rivers Lech and Lochbach, as well as the storage plant Ro?haupten at lake Forggen.

The plant group's total installed capacity is 260 MW, with an average annual generation of about 1,100 GWh.

Pump storage hydropower group

The Pumped storage power plant group mainly comprises?pumped storage?and storage plants along the rivers Eder, Diemel, Main, Sinn, Happach, and Rusel.

The plant group's total installed capacity is 980 MW, with an average annual generation of?about 1,300 GWh.

Rhine-Main-Danube (RMD) hydropower group

The Rhine-Main-Danube (RMD)?power plant group mainly comprises run-of-river plants along the?Danube, Altmühl, Main, Main-Danube canal, Wisent, Regnitz, and Aisch.

On the Danube part, the plant group's?total installed capacity is 226 MW, with an average annual generation of about 1,400 GWh.

On the Main part, the plant group's?total installed capacity is 119 MW, with an average annual generation of about 770 GWh.
